Absent
(Rosalind Cox’s Place)
1623 N 35th Street We chose Rosalind (Mama) Cox’s home because the entrance of the house features a geometric staircase, which was quite appealing to us. We were also attracted to the coziness of the environment -- a warm and welcoming home, especially during the winter. We were inspired by our acquaintance with Mama Cox and knowing how much she loves this space. Her house influenced our performance and our movement choices (a fluid blend of choreographic and improvisational scores), creating an atmosphere where we were all connected and aware of each other. We learned that any space, independently of its configuration, can be transformed into a place where people can share themselves with others. We also learned that each community has its beauty in its own way even when that might not be clear to the casual outside viewer. |
