Bespeak and Engage
CONCEPT: Milwaukee’s Washington Park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead Jr., was built on the principle that natural beauty can improve human nature. This may be true, but only if the natural beauty is perceived and appreciated.
DESCRIPTION: I re-introduced this question to the community of Washington Park with a site-specific public installation of three animal silhouettes representing first three animals brought to the former park zoo in 1892, an eagle, deer and bear. Olmstead’s question is posed again on banners inside each animal.
I pose the question for the members of the community to prompt them to consider what the beauty of the park has done for them in their community, to bring an appreciation. |
